Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is a major Australian University with more than 50,000 students and a strong, sought after Creative Industries faculty. At its Gardens Point premises, in the heart of Brisbane, a major refurbishment led by RAL Architects, converted the existing tiered lecture theatre at D Block into a multi purpose series of learning and study spaces, taking it from a space that was rarely used to one that is now popular for a broad range of activities, in daily use, and voted one of the most successful student spaces on campus. Choices around multi level furniture to enhance study and multiple learning styles with a focus on acoustics, flexibility, and design flare create an innovative contemporary space that encourages collaboration and fosters individual study.
