Fuse Turns 25!

It started in a garage 25 years ago . . .
In 1997, with a handful of brochures and a world of experience in the commercial furniture industry, Damian Hides began what is now known as Fuse Furniture. It was born from a desire to move back to Brisbane from Sydney leaving the now-defunct national furniture mega-company, Co-Design, where Damian held several senior positions. Fuse now has a firmly established reputation for quality commercial furniture both nationally and internationally.
Coming from an office furniture and fit-out background, Damian started out selling task chairs and workstations but his love of design, in particular, Danish and European design saw him expand into high-end designer and iconic ranges such as Fritz Hansen, Erik Jorgensen, and Louise Poulsen.

Fuse has weathered several financial downturns and the GFC (2007) was cause for a major paradigm shift away from the eclectic collections towards what is now our bread and butter – mid-range, commercial, Danish and Danish-inspired furniture, in particular, Four Design. A decision was also made to move towards manufacture – away from importing fully assembled product and towards importing components and assembling right here in Brisbane.

Today Fuse has expanded its operations to include manufacture of its own ranges while continuing to grow with Four Design and their associated company Ocee Design (UK) with Danish designer Niels Gammelgaard onboarding in this, our 25th year.
Since the pandemic, we have strengthened our passion to support local businesses so we only import components we can’t source locally. This has also fueled our drive to produce our own range of Australian designs which include our Moby and Lily tables with more to come.

This 25th year will see us expand our upholstery department with specialized machinery and increased expertise. We’re working on raising awareness of our brand through marketing and social media, and growing our sales team. We’re also adding an exciting new facility to our web site whereby architects and designers can create a customised dwg of products to drop into schedules and project docs – its our PCon Planner and we’ve already started introducing it with the most popular products added first and the balance to follow – but that’s a whole other story for another day!
