Pantone Colour of the Year 2022

Pantone has released their Colour of the Year 2022 and it’s the very gorgeous Very Peri.

For the first time in the history of Colour of the Year, they have created a brand new colour to reflect the global landscape. They describe it as “a periwinkle shade of blue’, creating a colour that exudes energy, creativity, and imagination. A nod to nature with its lavender and periwinkle hues, and also, to technology and the rise of the metaverse.

“Blending the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red, this happiest and warmest of all the blue hues introduces an empowering mix of newness,” Pantone stated in a press release about the new shade.

“As we move into a world of unprecedented change, the selection of Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone’s Color Institute.

“Encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time possessing a violet-red undertone, Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression.”

For the first time,, the brand decided to create a new shade that wasn’t already in its existing line up of colours.

Explaining the decision to come up with a new colour, rather than selectingn an existing one, Pantone Colour Institute Vice President Laurie Pressman said that “the Pantone Colour of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that colour can hope to answer.”

We’re looking for ways to integrate the escalation of the metaverse with our need for the tranquilty and refuge we crave from the natural environment. It’s meant also, to embody this period of emerging and expanding into what, for many, is a whole new world!

In the meantime we look forward to relaxing by the periwinkle sea, soaking up a few golden rays, underneath the grey-green palm leaves and writing a new script for the new year.

Here’s to celebrating colour, creativity, and 2022!
